Project Description

EMF VESSELS

Greenberry was contracted by Bechtel National Inc (BNI) to fabricate six large diameter alloy and stainless-steel corrosion-resistant process vessels for Hanford’s Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP), also know at the Vit Plant. The vessels will help process liquids throughout the effluent management facility.

Design, fabrication, testing, and inspection of the ASME, Section VIII, Division 1 vessels were done at our Vancouver, Washington, and Corvallis, Oregon, facilities. The vessels were hydrotested, as well as inspected with RT, PT, and UT methods for quality control. Ranging in function and size, the over-dimensional vessels were transported by specialized transport trailers over-the-road to Richland, WA, with the largest vessel was moving at night to minimize traffic and safety impacts.

PROJECT STATISTICS

  • One (1) AL6XN Vessel: 14’D x 45’T at 30 tons
  • Three (3) AL6XN Vessels: 12’D x 26’T at 17 tons each
  • One (1) 316 Stainless Steel Vessel: 14’D x 19’T x 20 tons
  • One (1) 316 Stainless Steel Vessel: 24” x 6’ T at 1 ton
  • Precision dimensional inspection was performed on vessel nozzles, attachments and vessel heads to ensure adherence to tight dimensional tolerances.
  • Developed state of the art welding processes to join specialized alloys to multiple changing metals of construction.
  • Application of multiple automated processes to allow for fast paced, assembly line type fabrication which is uncommon for project sized vessels.
